Date: Wed, 12th Mar 2025 19:30 - 21:00

Venue: Melton Carnegie Museum

The archaeological investigation of the new Melton bypass shows what an important prehistoric landscape surrounds us. Finds dating from the Upper Palaeolithic to the Middle Bronze were found as well as six Bronze Age cremations, a significant assemblage of worked flints and evidence for permanent Iron Age occupation of the site.

The late Roman period has yielded evidence of buildings, burials and agricultural cultivation trenches as well as part of a 5th Century Anglo-Saxon settlement with sunken-featured buildings, ditches and pits.

Archaeologist Ben Turner of Archaeological Services LTD will explain what has been found along the route and bring us up to date with the story of Melton Mowbray.

Doors open at 7.00pm and the talk starts at 7.30pm.

It's £5 CASH ONLY per person that can be paid on the door.

Pre-booking is essential. Please book by calling the museum on 0116 305 3860, or emailing us on meltonmuseum@leics.gov.uk or by popping into the museum.

This talk is expected to sell out so please let us know if you are unable to attend.
